Safe Bed Program
The Safe Bed Program offers short term, temporary residential support of up to 30 days to
individuals who are in immediate contact with the police, who are experiencing a mental health
and/or addictions crisis and are unable to remain in their current living situation.
ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible if you are: 16 years of age and older; experiencing a mental health and/or
addictions crisis; an individual that can be safely supported in the community and not at risk of
harming themselves or others; and who is medically stable and agrees to participate in the
programming offered.
HOW REFERRALS ARE MADE
• Brought directly by the Ontario Provincial Police or Treaty Three Police Service
• Brought by a mobile crisis team (community mental health and police team)
• Brought to hospital by police on a Mental Health Act apprehension – not deemed
appropriate for admission and then referred by the hospital or brought by police
SERVICES PROVIDED
• Crisis support and counselling
• Basic living needs (e.g. food, clothing, personal care items)
• Daily living skills (e.g. cooking, hygiene, housekeeping)
• Ongoing supports for advocacy, referrals and connections to community based services
Program is offered in the Rainy River District.
